What you need to know:

  • Rather than working hard to get what they are due, they prefer to sit back and complain about how they are not getting what they deserve, or pushing everyone out of the way to get ‘their due’.
  • An entitled person becomes an abusive partner.

1. They have an untreated mental illness: While illnesses such as depression, bipolar and personality disorders do not cause abusive behaviour, they can exacerbate an already bad situation if the sufferer refuses to get treatment.

2. They are rude: If the person you are dating is rude, obnoxious, stand-offish and just generally insufferable, they will turn all of that on you once they settle into the relationship.

3. They are resentful: They constantly think that life has given them rotten luck and are always complaining; one day they may decide that you are rotten luck, too.

4. They feel entitled: Rather than working hard to get what they are due, they prefer to sit back and complain about how they are not getting what they deserve, or pushing everyone out of the way to get ‘their due’. An entitled person becomes an abusive partner.

5. They make your skin crawl: Don’t ignore the little signals your body sends, like a tingling in your gut or on your skin whenever you are around them. Investigate the genesis of this feeling to find out if you need to run.
