What you need to know:

  • When sex is involved, people between age 35 and 75 will portray better memory and cognitive skills.
  • Additionally, according to a secondary study by the Yale University’s School of Public Health, older individuals who are exposed to positive messages about aging will tend to show long term improvements in self-image, strength and balance.

Are you comfortable about your age? Well, your attitude towards aging and how you feel about your own age is a key determinant of whether you will have a fulfilling sex life or not. This is according to a new study that was conducted by the University of Waterloo, Canada and released late last month. According to the study, your sex life will improve dramatically if you start feeling and living younger than your actual age. However, if you feel close to or older than your actual age, your chances of having a satisfying sex life will be lower.

The study further revealed that people in their mid to late years who feel much younger than their actual age will tend to have more sex than those who feel their age or older.

“Feeling younger has a huge impact on how people feel about the quality of their sex life, and how interested they are in having sex,” said the study’s lead researcher, Amy Estill.

Researchers examined the attitudes towards sex and aging in 1,170 adults over a period of 10 years. The adults who took part in the study were all aged from their mid-40s to mid-70s. The study was published in the Journal of Sex Research.

These findings are complemented by a study conducted by the University College London in England. According to this research, which studied 6,500 men and women, people who feel three or more years younger than their actual age will tend to have lower death rates than those who feel their age or even older. When sex is involved, people between age 35 and 75 will portray better memory and cognitive skills. Additionally, according to a secondary study by the Yale University’s School of Public Health, older individuals who are exposed to positive messages about aging will tend to show long term improvements in self-image, strength and balance.
