Comedienne Jastorina dies after Kalasha win

A dark pall descended at the largely successful fifth edition of the Kalasha Award as the winner for the best performance in a comedy was announced.
The award went to Nancy Nyambura for her role as Jastorina in Citizen TV’s comedy by the same name. However, Nancy was not on hand to receive the award as she lay fighting for her life.
Hours after being feted at the awards, she breathed her last having lost the battle to complications arising from a meningitis infection.

Her character was plagued with a heavy vernacular accent that brought a comical twist to the proceedings as justice was served in court. She also considered herself very sophisticated and many steps removed from a the country bumpkin she really was in the heavy make up she always applied.
She reinvented her accent-ridden character as the househelp Jastorina also known as Mbosh who takes over the house while the boss of the house is away.
Her erstwhile co-star Size 8 said that she was shocked and saddened by the news of her demise, "I am so shocked and deeply saddened. Kenya has lost a genuine talent."
Kenya Film Commission, the organiser of Kalasha Awards, through its spokesperson said that Nancy's death was a tragedy for he industry. "It is a tragic loss to the acting community and Kenya. Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family."
