I love what Flag42 is doing in the Kenyan music industry.

Constantly releasing songs and new artists while maintaining the stellar quality of the more seasoned ones.

This is the moment where I declare my love or Benady's work. He is as humble on tracks as he is in person, as you can see from my interview with him here.

Their newest offering is Kuja Tu, by newcomer Monitah featuring Jerry (whose song Zura belies a wonderful vocal ability), Phonez and Benady himself.

Monitah is telling a man that he should just 'kuja tu' if he likes her, instead of wasting time:

Kama wewe wanipenda

wacha kujifanya basi kuja tu

kuja tu

kuja tu

wacha mi na wewe tupae juu

This song and Monitah's vocals especially have a lilting almost magical quality that makes me feel like I am in a dark, smoky bar with a sultry woman caressing a microphone singing of her desire. It is a laidback type of song, gentle and taunting at the same time.

You can listen to it to get in a good mood, or you can dance to it as well, because the salsa influence of the song does make you want to get on your feet. I love the simplicity of the song, which come through clearly in its well crafted guitar riffs.

I also particularly like how Monitah and Jerry have made a type of duet dialogue in the song, emphasized by their sweet harmonies. Benady's rap is languid and seductive, yet still masterful;.

The only problem I have with the song is Phonez' rap –  I feel he falls short of the otherwise good quality represented in the song. I'll wait to judge him on his next track before making a concrete decision on his skills. Check out the song here.
