What you need to know:

  • This is an easily identifiable and relatable theme.
  • Many people get into relationships and then all of a sudden the relationship goes wrong and you have no idea why – then you think that the other person is simply playing games with your heart.

Rosa from Flag42 has a new song out called Zungusha, produced by Rkay.

As the song begun, I thought it was going to be one of those party party "hepi hepi" songs – it isn't, like zungusha, tingisha kiuno...it is not. It's a love song – or rather, a tortured love song. Rosa is asking why the guy in her life is 'taking her round', when she expected so much more from him and their relationship:

Nilidhani utanipa furaha niliyotamani

Kilio changu kimekuwa kwako burudani

machozi ya samaki

This is an easily identifiable and relatable theme. Many people get into relationships and then all of a sudden the relationship goes wrong and you have no idea why – then you think that the other person is simply playing games with your heart.

I like that it has an easy feel. It makes for easy listening as well, in that way. My favourite thing about the song is the little homage to Chackacha music that she plays with on the bridge for the song.

That part stands out to me. Other than that, and the above average vocals, I think it is a good song.

This song sounds a little bit old school as well. The combination of beats and instrumentals in the background feels like a throwback to Kenyan music in the 2000s, a bit of a combination between the hip hop sounds of "Bidii Yangu" and "Ma Fans", strangely enough.

Whether that was deliberate or not I don't know but it takes one back.

Maybe anakuzungusha because he's just not that into you...it happens! Though with a face like Rosa's, I don't see how.
