What you need to know:

  • It is a fairly typical tale - he is an aggressive and unnecessarily belligerent man, throws away the food she serves him when in a drunken stupor, but still she stays, even when he almost beats her child.
  • At the end of the video, he brings another girl into her house, and that is apparently the last straw.
  • The abused wife blows up and fights back – but does she leave?

Jerry is a local artist under the record label Flag 42. He released his first song last year, titled "Wera", and has performed with the likes of Zakah, Benady and Mwafreeka, among others.

His newest single “Zura”, currently has a little over 800 views on YouTube. He is working on his first album. The question is, will it be worth a listen?

The video of the song takes place in a rural setting, with the shots intercutting between the singer, Jerry, and the story of an abused wife going on in the background.

FAIRLY TYPICAL TALE

It is a fairly typical tale - he is an aggressive and unnecessarily belligerent man, throws away the food she serves him when in a drunken stupor, but still she stays, even when he almost beats her child.

At the end of the video, he brings another girl into her house, and that is apparently the last straw.

The abused wife blows up and fights back – but does she leave?

The video is definitely watchable. I liked the alternating colour and sepia-filled tone of it.

I am not sure if it correlated with the words of the song – Jerry is singing about a woman he is in love with whom he has not seen for three days, and he wants her to go back home.

I did enjoy the words of the song and its harmonies more than the video.

Jerry has talent, and his mellow voice is soothing and heartfelt, with an ability to really express the emotion in the words of his songs properly.

I will definitely be watching out for the album. I wonder if he is as good in a live performance.
