Great family restaurant

What you need to know:

  • Our little one dashed to this area and remained there the entire time, only returning to wolf down a few bites of rice.

  • We ordered cashew rice, chilli dry fried beef, chilli pork and special rice. The food arrived rapidly and the portions are medium-sized.

  • They apparently are well-known for quick meals so this place is also ideal for a business lunch when you are in a hurry.

After their school closing day ceremony, we brought the Little One to the new For You restaurant, opposite Valley Arcade Shopping Centre, for lunch.

The building is custom-designed, with traditional Chinese arches at the parking lot entrance. Friendly watchmen directed us to a parking slot. As we walked into the spacious one-storey building, a large entrance water fountain established a soothing ambiance.

The décor is formal but tasteful. Fittings with traditional Chinese designs, along with well-placed bamboo plants in ornate ceramic pots add to the welcoming ambiance.

High ceilings, bright walls and large windows give the restaurant an airy feel and beckon one to enjoy the view of the outdoor courtyard.

We chose a seat outside overlooking large, well-manicured grounds. Bright flowers and a circular fountain formed an attractive centerpiece.

The main attraction for families is the huge children’s play area. The restaurant provides child-minders to watch over the little ones so parents can eat in peace.

QUICK MEALS

Our waitress today seemed to be having a bad day. She was not wearing a ‘trainee’ badge so I could not otherwise account for her dispassionate service.

She was a bit confused in taking our order and forgot to take down the Little One’s order.

After our meal, she brought us the bill and began clearing and wiping the table. It is a good thing my companion had been here before; as a first-timer I was not aware that patrons are entitled to receive complimentary ice-cream.

When I asked her why she had not mentioned it, she replied, “You did not tell me what flavours you wanted.”

She then brought us three bowls of ice-cream, along with the usual complimentary gifts – a miniature torch, a mirror and some candy.

Along with the play area and free ice-cream, these gifts form a great incentive for families to keep coming back.  For You Restaurant prices are quite reasonable; our meal came to Sh2, 500.
