What you need to know:

  • Many women will always say that they have nothing to wear when an occasion comes up, or will have trouble putting daily looks together with their existing wardrobe.

  • Despite continual purchases some still say this. Here are basics tips to put a stop to making bad purchases.

  1. Take a good look at all the wrong purchases you have in your closet. Determine and analyse what the main reason and factors are for this, including fabric, style, colour or cut. In most cases, price plays a huge factor, causing impulse buying that allows you to ignore fit and style.
  2. Select the favourite pieces that work for you. This will help determine what you should look for when buying clothes in future.
  3. Put looks together that suit, work and flatter you best. Consider your work dress code and your general lifestyle to help you achieve the desired looks appropriately. This will also help with future purchases if need be.
  4. Determine what is lacking in your closet and focus on that instead of over investing in one-off unnecessary pieces. Focus on basic key pieces that can be dressed up or down.
  5. Invest in quality pieces that will last. This does not necessarily mean cost; rather, look out for workmanship and fabric quality and detailing. Opt for timeless pieces instead of trendy ones.
  6. You can invest in cheap clothes that look expensive or make cheap clothes look expensive by investing in expensive accessories. Shop at flee markets or secondhand outlets and pick good pieces that are as good as new and still look fabulous. Customise your clothes with quality detailing by changing buttons and using quality ones instead.
