What you need to know:

  • This is also the right time to assess whether or not your skin care regime has been working and whether you have realised your skin care goals.

  • If you have taken good care of your skin, the signs of ageing will be minimal.

  • If there are signs of neglect and rapid pre-mature aging, you may wish to take more consideration to slow down the damage.

THE ONSET OF the new year also means that you are growing older. But even as you age, you can keep your skin youthful by investing in quality skincare.

To do this, you have to first take stock of the condition of your skin. Using a magnifying mirror, closely examine your skin and look for signs of natural aging. Look out for wrinkles, discolouration and age spots.

If you notice any of them, them the best time to take care of then is now. If you ignore, they take root and it becomes difficult to treat them.

The first step is to train yourself to sleep facing upwards, because sleeping on your face causes wrinkles. It takes just one week to change your sleeping habits. Use a soft pillow tucked under your ear to anchor your neck and prevent your face from crushing into the pillowcase. Always use a soft pillow with a tightly fitting satin pillow case. This helps to minimise lines from forming on your face.

Do not squint when driving. Wear sunglasses to reduce the glare.

These and other measures that will be highlighted in this column every week will ensure that you preserve your skin well into old age.
