Happy New Year!! I have to say, it had escaped my mind just a peaceful New Year is like thanks to last year’s madness which I spent in the house watching 24!

So, come New Year’s eve and I decided a gospel concert was where I wanted to be come ‘09 and that is why, I made my way to the Totally Sold Out concert at Parklands and boy, didn’t it rock!!

I have said time and again that gospel artistes are the best and I believe they will take over 2009 and anyone who was there will agree with me. Gospel artistes are some of the most creative, diverse artistes we have around and this is because no artiste can claim that they are the best. Each and everyone is good at what they do.

From Daddy Owen to Esther Njeri and of course the very talented and brilliant Kanjii, TSO, as the event was dubbed was one to watch and it looks as though many in Nairobi chose gospel over secular.

I hear Jua Cali’s event was a disaster and other places were not as packed. I was shocked because they were youths and they were thoroughly enjoying the concert. Yes, they even sat on the ground to listen to the teachings.

The DJ’s led by Dj Mose and the winner of the recent DJ competition were at hand to play some brilliant music that I thought would have augured well with any crowd.

Forget play back, gospel artistes go live and they do very well and on this occasion it was Chris Adwar.

I don’t see a Jua Cali domination this year and I can’t quite pick an artiste who looks ready to dominate but I can bet you we will have more than four gospel artistes taking over this year.

Know why? Because gospel music has found its own crowd that is not afraid to show they love the music and the artistes and that is a big plus for gospel artistes because their fans buy their music and attend their shows. I cannot say the same for secular artistes. Look at Kanjii’s album launch.

Even coporates have picked up on that and I can bet we will have more gospel concerts than ever before.

As we start the year, let me thank you, dear readers for your continued support and it will be a pleasure having you there to experience 2009 together.
