Likobe makes a comeback

Former television comedian Likobe is making a comeback to the entertainment scene. This time round, he will not be on the television but he is appearing in cinema halls, open places and even market places.

The comedian, who was recently appointed the goodwill ambassador for Kenya Pipeline, has been going round the country campaigning for decent dressing through a charitable institution - Beki Promotions - that is calling for decent dressing amongst the youth.

“I’m not only advocating for the decent dressing but also showcasing the importance of the African dress,” said Likobe when Buzz talked to him yesterday after he held a show at Nairobi’s 680 Hotel.

A number of artistes and radio personalities entertained their fans. They included DNA and Mr Boo.

Likobe is best remembered for recurring roles in Vitimbi and  Vioja Mahakamani television series.

DJ Krowbar out of  K-Krew

DJ Krowbar, popularly known as the Mfalme DJ, has left the gospel DJ unit  K-Krew DJ unit. Krowbar says he is now working on his solo projects.

“I have no hard feelings with K-Krew, it’s just a matter of growth and if there are projects that we can work on together, I would gladly do so,” said Krowbar.

Contacted, DJ Moz, K-Krew’s leader, said that they have not finalised everything with Krowbar, but he’s confident that the DJ is in the mission of spreading the gospel.

“We are a family and I’m more than sure that he will spread the gospel in whatever he does, so we have no problem whatsoever,” said Moz. Rumour has it that Krowbar might start his own show on NTV very soon.

Cecilia vows to keep up anti-jigger fight

The anti-jigger campaign on Wednesday marked three years since the Ahadi Kenya Trust Foundation launched it.

The event was attended musician Suzanne Gachukia, Kiss Fm presenter Jalang’o, Coro FM morning presenters Wanjiru wa Chege and Ngoni wa Thuita, even the president’s son Jimmi Kibaki graced the occassion.

The Ahadi Kenya director, Stanley Kamau, and the campaign’s goodwill ambassador, Cecilia  Mwangi, welcomed Kiss FM presenter Jalang’o (Felix Odiwuor)  as an ambassador.

“I joined the team on a few trips when they were going to visit those infested with jiggers and decided to be a part of it. I was very ignorant of this problem before I met people who were suffering,” said Jalang’o.

“Some leaders have been reluctant to admit that there are people suffering because of jiggers in their constituencies yet over 400 people have died so far because of this parasite, I am not giving up” Cecila vowed.

Gait, Ruff  and Owen endorse new bank account

Three gospel artistes, Rufftone, Jimmy Gait and Daddy Owen were last week appointed by Kenya Commercial Bank to be ambassadors of their new account targeting the youth, Bankika account.

The three artistes rode on branded buses on Monday morning, where they gave passengers coming into town free rides. They will move across the country to promote the same.

Will  Daddy Owen have his Groove back?

The Groove awards 2010 nominees list is officially out and fans have started voting. Topping the list again is Daddy Owen with five nominations, followed closely by Jimmy Gait, Ringtone and Juliani.

In the Male Artiste of the Year category, new entrants like Allan Aaron, Holy Dave and Ben Githae have joined regular players Daddy Owen, Jimmie Gait and Juliani.

In the Female Artist of the Year, veteran musician bounces back into the list since she didn’t feature last year, joined by new entrants into the awards Betty Bayo and Joan Wairimu.

The rest of the female artistes include Emmy Kosgei, Eunice Njeri and Marion Shako. In the Album of the Year category, Daddy Owen’s ‘System Ya Kapungala’ is back this year to compete with MOG’s ‘Someday’, Webi’s ‘All I can Say’, Wernono’s ‘10 Ideas’, Emmy Kosgei’s ‘Taunet Nelel’ and Holy Dave’s I can Do it’.

This year’s nominees list, announced last Tuesday at Stanley Hotel by Groove CEO Kevin Mulei, has included more categories.

The Groove parties start with Mombasa this afternoon, at the Mama Ngina Drive Park. Kisumu is next on April 11, at Jomo Kenyatta Sports grounds, and Nairobi’s will be on April 18 at KICC. The gala will be on May 1 at KICC Tsavo Ballroom.
