Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) National Chairman Omboko Milemba has claimed that his life is in danger.

Mr Milemba asked Inspector General of Police David Kimaiyo to provide him with security, citing three different cases where he has been attacked.

The latest one was that of a carjacking incident on Saturday in Vihiga County during which his eye was damaged, he said.

“I strongly believe that somebody is after my life. On Saturday March 22, 2014, I was trailed by unknown people in a vehicle the whole day. During the incident, the attackers, about five of them, poured some corrosive chemicals into my left eye in the evening,” said Mr Milemba.

He said that he was attacked at his gate and after raising an alarm, the suspects fled on a motorcycle to an awaiting vehicle that had been packed about 600 metres from his home.
Mr Milemba said the suspects only managed to take away his mobile phone.

“I do think that these attacks and carjackings are not mere incidences. There must be more that I don’t know. It is your office that has the capacity to delve into this matter,” said Mr Milemba in a letter to Mr Kimaiyo.

He went on: “I wish to appeal to your office to provide and monitor my security as on two occasions I have been carjacked while in Nairobi.”

He added that the first incident took place on October 18, 2012 and the car registration number KBG 045F Nissan Extrail was not recovered.

Mr Milemba further said that on July 23, 2013 while near his residence in Nairobi West, he was carjacked again but the car was recovered near Langata area.

He said that other union officials have also been attacked and expressed fears that they could be the targets.

Mr Edwin Obwocha, who is the union’s Secretary for Secondary Schools said he was attacked last year and more than Sh700,000 stolen from him just after withdrawing it from a bank while the National Treasurer Njenga Mithwi was last month attacked at his home in Kiambu.

“We are seeing something. We do not want to take chances and that is why we are asking the government to intervene and assure us our security,” Mr Obwocha said.
