Businessman Deepak Kamani Thursday appeared for questioning before the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) officials in Nairobi in relation to the multi-billion Anglo Leasing scandal.

Officials confirmed Mr Kamani was at the EACC headquarters at Integrity Centre in Nairobi Thursday morning to record a statement.

The tycoon lost an appeal in March barring the EACC from investigating him regarding his involvement in Anglo Leasing.

The Court of Appeal then overturned a High Court ruling that barred the EACC from interfering with the passports of Mr Kamani and his brother Rashmi Kamani.

The court also ruled that the Principal Immigration officer had powers to cancel their passport if they failed to present themselves before the Anti-Corruption Commission for questioning.

The anti-corruption body had started investigations against the Kamani brothers in 2006 over allegations of corruption and economic crimes involving procurement of security projects between the government and some companies, including the Anglo-Leasing and Finance Company Ltd.

Last month, Kenya paid Sh1.4 billion to two Anglo Leasing-type companies owned by Mr Annure Perreira.
