Deputy President William Ruto has sued two government officials who irregularly sold him land in Uasin Gishu County.

The land officials, Mr Bethwel Kipsang and Mr Peter Kiplimo Koskei, appeared before Eldoret senior principal magistrate Samuel Mokua Friday and were charged with irregularly selling Mr Ruto a 100-acre piece of land in Turbo, Uasin Gishu using the name of one Dorothy Chemtai Yator.

SURRENDER THE LAND

The Deputy President’s lawyer, Mr Wanyonyi Mulati, told the court his client lost a court case in which Mr Adrian Muteshi, the original owner of the land, sued him for acquiring the property illegally.

At the conclusion of the case, the High Court in Eldoret ordered Mr Ruto to surrender the land to Mr Muteshi.

But in a new twist, Mr Mulati said, investigations established that the names on the title deed were not the ones registered at the Ministry of Lands.

“Reference number UG/TAPSAGOI/33, has ownership name of Adrian Muteshi, not Dorothy Chemtai Yator as in the buyer’s documents,” said Mr Mulati.

Mr Kipsang and Mr Koskei pleaded not guilty and were released on a bond of Sh500,000 each with a surety of similar amount or cash bail of Sh200,000 each.

The case will be mentioned on September 26.
