Kenya National Teachers Union (Knut) has called for a nationwide teachers strike from Jan 5th, saying talks with employer Teachers Service Commission over their terms of service.

The union secretary general Wilson Sossion issued a strike notice of seven days to the ministry of labour and TSC.

They urged students in both primary and secondary schools not to show up for learning.

The union accused the Salaries and Remuneration Commission for being an impediment to their pursuit for better terms of employment.

He said the union’s Annual Delegates Conference voted for a resolution for the members to institute industrial action.

Mr Sossion said the delegates’ conference is the supreme decision-making organ whose resolution is final and binding.
