Security is tight in Nyeri town as thousands attended the historic beatification ceremony for Sister Irene Stefani "Nyaatha".
Security officers patrolled the town on foot, others in vehicles and motorcycles.
The streets of Nyeri town remained deserted for the better part of the day and most shops were closed as residents attended the historic event at the Dedan Kimathi University of Technology grounds.
The National Youth Service officers were stationed at strategic points in the town to control traffic and movement of people.
