Former KQ employee released from prison

A former Kenya Airways flight attendant Priscilla Chemutai Kolongoi walked out of Lang'ata Women's Prison to her freedom on Monday morning after 13 years behind bars.

Family members were present to receive the 49-year-old who was imprisoned in 2002 after being found guilty of drug trafficking.

She was to serve 18 years, but her sentence was reduced to 13 years for good conduct while in prison.

Ms Kolongei was 36 when she lost her freedom, and she left her then very young daughter in the hands of relatives.

Her family arrived early on Monday morning to receive her. By 8am, they had left the prison that has been her home since March, 2002.

Ms Kolongei was arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as she tried to smuggle more than 27 kilogrammes of heroin worth Sh27 million into the country from India.
