A director of a non-governmental organisation suspected of funding a terror cell in Mandera County has been detained for two days to allow police to complete investigations.
Mr Abdisalam Afif Shueb was arrested on January 19 at Eastleigh Mall in Nairobi.
"The respondent is one of the directors of Kabgal Foundation based in Mandera County; the foundation is believed to be facilitating terrorism in and out of the country by recruiting youth who travel to Somalia for training," Mr Cyrus Ikade of the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit told a magistrate.
He said intelligence information on the suspect can be viewed by court in confidence.
"The foundation is also believed to be receiving funds from persons believed to be Al-Shabaab sympathisers and uses it to run programmes for the youth who have been joining their ranks in Somalia," the police officer said.
The court heard that a number of youth "had left the country to join the terror group in Somalia”.
