What you need to know:

  • Roads to be closed and matatus redirected to new termini in a bid to ensure smooth movement.

Transport flow into Nakuru will be interrupted on Wednesday as the town hosts the national 53rd Madaraka Day celebration at Afraha Stadium.

Several roads leading to the central business district will be closed temporarily to ease congestion. The closure is also meant to serve as a security measure.

Arrangements have been made to ensure the Nairobi-Nakuru highway is closed in intervals to allow heavy commercial vehicles to move. A section of the highway will also be closed temporarily from Lanet-Kiundu junction to Total petrol station in town.

More than 2,000 people are expected to attend the event to be presided by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Rift Valley Regional Coordinator Wanyama Musiambo called on the public to cooperate with security and traffic officers.

Ample parking space has been reserved for motorists attending the function, said Mr Musiambo.

Roads to be closed include Kariba, Oginga Odinga, Geofrey Kamau and Moi to avoid traffic jam around the stadium.

Vehicles dropping passengers from Eldoret and Kericho to town will use the ASK show ground while those from Nairobi and Nyahururu are to do so at Menengai High School.

Nakuru will only have one celebration at Afraha Stadium, unlike in previous years. Other counties in the Rift Valley including West Pokot, Samburu and Baringo will hold their celebrations as usual.
