The Standard Eight examination results of more than 300 pupils from Coast Province which had been withheld have been released.

However, there was disappointment as the candidates from the 10 schools received the results that had been held by the Kenya National Examination Council over irregularities.

Nine institutions from the St Kevin Group of Schools and one private school received their results which had been withheld for more than a week for investigations.

The highest student in Coast Province from the results released on Friday had 440 marks.

At St Kevin Hill Tudor, many of the candidates who were anxious to get their results wept in disappointment after they received them.

“We expected to score more than what we have received,” said one of them tearfully.

The St Kevin schools, which received their results include Mikindani Academy, Likoni, Mkomani Academy, Topstar Academy, St Kevin Tudor and Magongo Hill Academy from where the top pupil emerged.

Mwanahawa Juma, the top pupil, said she was not expecting less than 460 marks.

“It is better what I have received than my results being cancelled,” she said.

St Kevin Tudor administrator Chris Nyongesa confirmed that St Kevin Hill Voi centre, St Kevin Malindi Academy and that of Busia branch had also received their results.

He said many of the children were disappointed by the low marks.

“The students expected to perform better than what they have scored,” said Mr Nyongesa.

Mombasa municipal education officer Francis Tsuma said the results of 363 pupils had been delayed by Knec for investigation over suspicion of malpractice during exam time.

Mr Tsuma said only two pupils of St Kevin Mikindani had their Mathematics results cancelled.

“Only index three and four of Mikindani academy had missed their maths results,” said Mr Tsuma.

The results for 10 pupils from St Cecilia Green Hill Academy Jomvu that had been delayed were also released.
