Activist laid to rest

The slain director of Oscar Foundation was on Saturday laid to rest at his family's home in Kiambu, Central Kenya.
A sombre mood marked the burial of human rights activist, Oscar Kamau King’ara who was shot dead on March 5, 2009.
Family members called on the government to investigate the matter and reveal those who gunned down Mr King'ara.
“Why does the police prefer the gun other than the courts? How many more do we expect to be killed the same way?” asked the brother, Micheal King’ara.
Oscar King’ara, the executive director of an NGO with links to the Mungiki, was shot dead by unknown assailants, sparking unrest among University of Nairobi students last week.
His colleague, who was later identified as a former official of the Students Union of the University of Nairobi, was also killed.
Police Commissioner Maj Gen Hussein Ali ordered the arrest of three police officers who were said to be connected to the incident but they were later released after results of a postmortem examination revealed that the killer bullet was fired from a pistol while the officers were said to have been carrying rifles.
Mr King'ara is survived by his wife, Nancy Kamau and two children.
