An additional 45 districts have been created since March this year and it will cost the government Sh2.1 billion to build 70 new district headquarters by the end of the year.

Prof Saitoti was speaking at his office on Monday when he commissioned 36 new district commissioners.
The number of districts has risen from 57 in 2003 when President Kibaki first came into office.
Prof Saitoti said that, though the move has been criticised, it was meant to bring government services closer to the people.
He said the increase in the number of districts was also one of the ways of tackling growing insecurity in the country.
“District commissioners must give priority to tackling security challenges and resolving conflicts in society,” he said.
