108 NYS recruits injured in stampede at Gilgil college

At least 108 recruits were injured Monday following a stampede caused by a transformer explosion at the National Youth Service (NYS) Training School in Gilgil.

The injured were rushed to the Gilgil Sub-County Hospital by the Kenya Red Cross.

According to the hospital’s medical superintendent, Dr Catherine Gitau, some of the injured were transferred to Nakuru Level 5 Hospital for further treatment.

Nakuru Level 5 Medical Superintendent John Murima confirmed that six NYS recruits are being treated at the facility.

He said five of those admitted are female recruits.
