16 people injured in Kimende seven-car crash

At least 16 people were injured Sunday night in a crash that involved multiple vehicles at Rukuma in Kimende on the Nairobi-Naivasha highway.

According to St John Ambulance, six people were rushed to Tigoni and Lari hospitals while the rest were treated at the scene.

The crash, which occured at around 9pm, involved three trucks, two matatus, a pickup truck and a bus.

The crash occurred when a matatu belonging to the Prestige Shuttle company heading to Nakuru from Nairobi tried to overtake a lorry.

The other five vehicles rammed into the lorry and the matatu.

The crash caused a major traffic jam along the busy highway.

Police said more accidents happen in December than in other months.

According to traffic police statistics, 304 people died in road crashes countrywide in December 2013.
