Four killed in IED attack in Garissa

At least four people were on Tuesday afternoon killed after the vehicle they were travelling in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device in border town of Kulan in Garissa County.

Security sources and locals told the Nation that the four died on the spot when the vehicle belonging ADESO, a non-governmental organisation working in Somalia, ran over the device.

The workers were going to their offices in Dobley when the they met their deaths at 2.30pm.

The incident comes barely two weeks after three Administration Police were killed in between Kulan and Dadaab in an IED attack.

A week earlier, some three police officers and four civilians were killed in similar incidents that happened a day apart, around the same place.

And last Wednesday, a teacher was killed when suspected Al-Shabaab gunmen raided Fafi centre in Fafi Ward Garissa County.

IED

The government has said in the past that the rag-tag militia based on Somalia have changed tack from gorilla war to planting IEDs on roads, mainly targeting security officers in areas near border town.

Northeastern Regional Coordinator Mohamud Saleh has maintained that local criminal agents may be working with Al-Shabab.

Mr Saleh said Al-Shabaab have been suppressed by joint African Mission in Somalia and are escaping to Kenya through porous border.
