AP arrested for extorting Sh 50,000 from USIU student

An Administration Police officer based at the Security of Government Buildings has been arrested after he allegedly extorted Sh50,000 from a Nigerian student in Kasarani.

Nairobi County Police Commander Japheth Koome said Constable Peter Mburu was arrested after he was positively identified by the victim on Sunday morning.

Mr Abdul Rasheed Abedala, a Nigerian studying at the United States International University-Africa (USIU), reported to the police that two men confronted him on March 29 at 9.30am.

They told him that they were police officers and threatened to plant bhang on him and organise for his deportation if he did not give them money. He claimed he gave them Sh50,000.

On Sunday morning, the student spotted one of the men and alerted the police.

Detectives later established that the suspect they had arrested is an AP officer.

Mr Koome said the detectives were looking for his accomplice.

The officer will be taken to court Tuesday.

In the last four months, at least nine AP officers have been arrested for committing crimes in Nairobi.

On February 29, four police officers were arrested at Uhuru Camp for illegal possession of ivory.
