An Administration Police officer shot dead a driver inside a police station after an argument over parking space before committing suicide in Chuka town at the weekend.

Mr Morris Gitari Kaunda, 33, died after he was shot in the stomach and the neck.

He had gone to the police station to report an assault by AP officer Zachary Wadambwa following an argument outside the county IEBC offices in Chuka over parking space.

County police boss Johnstone Ipara said the two had argued after the officer felt provoked by Mr Kaunda’s prolonged hooting to attract the attention of a private guard who was manning the IEBC offices gate.

Instead of opening the gate, the AP picked a quarrel with the driver, degenerating into a fight.

Mr Kaunda later drove off to Chuka Police Station and was giving the statement when Mr Wadambwa stormed the station.

A witness said Mr Wadambwa demanded that the police officer, who was recording the statement, stops the process.

“He grabbed the pen and asked him, ‘Are you not on duty just as I am? Would you like your case to be handled the way you are handling mine?’” said the witness

A senior Administration Policeman was called in to resolve the matter and he reprimanded Mr Wadambwa. It is then that the officer cocked the G3 rifle he was carrying and aimed a shot at his boss but missed, hitting the wall. He then shot Mr Kaunda in the stomach and the neck.

Mr Wadambwa stormed out afterwards and fired in the air to scare away other officers who were pursuing him.

He later took his life by shooting himself in the mouth.

“He was quiet and kept to himself,” said Mr Ipara.
