Ababu Namwamba stopped from leading Labour Party

The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has dealt a blow to Budalang'i MP Ababu Namwamba's bid to lead the Labour Party of Kenya.

The tribunal on Monday restrained him from acting as a member and leader of the party.

CONFUSION

This follows an application my Mr John Barasa Makokha, on behalf of the LPK, asking the tribunal to bar Mr Namwamba from transacting business on behalf of the party.

Mr Makokha had sworn an affidavit with the tribunal on the matter on January 27.

On that day, the tribunal led by Kyalo Mbobu and Milly Odongo ordered that: “in order to avoid confusion in the affairs of the party, an interim order is hereby issued to restrain the respondent herein, by her servants, agents, from acting or purporting to act or representing and holding himself as member and party leader of the Labour Party of Kenya pending the hearing and determination of the application inter parties.”

SERVE NOTICE

They also ordered the claimant to serve the notice of motion together with the statement of claim.

The tribunal also granted leave to the applicant to file and serve supplementary affidavit explaining the “nexus between the deponent and the claimant.”

The matter is scheduled to be heard on March 9.

Mr Namwamba had resigned as secretary-general of the Orange Democratic Movement last year before joining LPK where he was named party leader.

NO IDEA

He cited "frustration" as the main reason why he ditched the party led by Raila Odinga.

On Tuesday, LPK chairperson Dr Julia Ojiambo, however, said she was not aware of the case before the tribunal.

“Party has no idea and has not filed anything anywhere,” she said.
