An activist has gone to court seeking to block three legislators charged with hate speech from a joint select parliamentary team on electoral reform.

Henry Kioko has sued Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama and MPs Moses Kuria (Gatundu South) and Junet Mohamed (Suna East).

He wants the lawmakers barred from becoming members of the proposed select committee formed to deliberate on changes at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC).

Both the ruling Jubilee coalition and the opposition Cord are listed as interested parties in the case.

The petitioner argues that the three have been recommended for appointment as members of the select committee though they have been charged in court for criminal offences.

QUESTIONABLE INTEGRITY

He claims their integrity is questionable and that their appointment offends Chapter Six of the Constitution.

The activist alleges that the appointment is illegal, unfair and prejudicial to public interest.

He wants the matter to be certified urgent, heard on a priority basis and a temporary order issued restraining the three from participating or in any way being part of the selected team.
