Two lobby groups are headed to court to seek justice for a Busia pupil who was attacked and raped by a gang of youths more than three months ago.

The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) and International Federation of Women Lawyers (Fida) said Thursday they would sued the State “for failure to protect’’ the teenager.

KNCHR executive officer Patricia Nyaundi accused the State of “putting the girl in a position where she is pleading with it for a recognition of her rights.’’

The six suspects are yet to be arrested with local police saying they have gone underground.

The attack has left the teenager wheelchair-bound and suffering from obstetric fistula, a condition that leaves a woman with a leaky bladder.

Doctors at the Gynocare Fistula Centre in Eldoret where the girl is admitted say she will undergo surgery for a spinal injury and the fistula.
