Two sons of slain drug baron Ibrahim Akasha and two other men have renewed their plea to be released on bond.

Mr Baktash Akasha Abdalla, Mr Ibrahim Akasha Abdalla, Mr Vijaygiri Anandgiri, and Mr Gulam Hussein told a Mombasa court on Thursday that they were ready to abide by any conditions they are given.

“In the absence of any offence here, you can’t deny the suspects bail,” lawyer Cliff Ombeta told the court.

He told the court that a notice issued by Interpol against the accused was not a compelling reason to deny them bail.

The four are liable to charges of conspiracy to trafficking in drugs in the US and in Kenya.

Lawyer Kirathe Wandugi said the accused were ready and willing to submit to the jurisdiction of the court.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecution Alexander Muteti, however, opposed the application, saying there were “no changed circumstances” to warrant granting of bail.

On Tuesday, the police Inspector-General was directed to ensure the accused do not leave the jurisdiction of the court without an order.

Mr Muteti said the government had no intention of handing over the suspects to any authority without complying with extradition laws.

Last week, the court ruled that they would be held in police custody for 17 days to allow for formal extradition procedures.

The case will be mentioned on December 1.
