The laptop project for primary school pupils will be completed by April, Education Principal Secretary Belio Kipsang has said.

Dr Kipsang said the government had received 90 per cent of the gadgets.

“Assembling of the laptops is going on at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology and Moi University,” he said in Vihiga during his tour of schools in Vihiga and Kakamega counties.

The two institutions of higher learning were tasked with fitting the gadgets with relevant software for learning.

Already, some 150 schools are running the pilot project.

While in Vihiga, Dr Kipsang visited Bunyore Girls and St Bakhita’s Ebusiratsi Girls and gave each school 20 computers.

Bunyore Girls was also given Sh15 million while St Bakhita’s Ebusiratsi Girls received Sh10 million from the government for the construction of dormitories.

“The computers we have given to the two school, are part of our computer literacy programme. I wish to assure the country all schools will receive laptops by April,” he said.

State House spokesman Manoah Esipisu, who accompanied the PS, said the government had installed electricity in schools as part of the plan to effect the laptop project.

“It doesn’t matter where a school is located. Electricity is reaching every school and laptops will be distributed to all schools,” he said.
