Throngs are expected at a Sunday service in Kisumu to be attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto.

The President will be in the lakeside town to preside over the official opening of Western Kenya Union Conference of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Mamboleo.

Mr Ruto visited the church in 2014 for a major fundraiser in aid of the construction.

Friday, Seventh Day church faithful were putting final touches to their new headquarters in Kisumu in preparation to host the country’s two top leaders.

Roads to the new offices were paved a few days ago.

Pastor Ken Maena, Seventh Day Western Kenya Conference president, said all was set for the occasion.

The headquarters will serve 16 counties in western Kenya and is the second largest property owned by the church after that of the Eastern Kenya Union, which serves regions around Nairobi.

Governor Jack Ranguma said he had been notified by State House of the visit.

He confirmed he would attend alongside other leaders from the county, adding that he would not wish to suffer backlash from members of the Cord coalition.

Security personnel led by Nyanza Regional Police Commander Willy Lugusa and Regional Coordinator Wilson Njenga assured visitors of adequate security at the event.

Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura said: “The visits by the President have been good for Kisumu. We now have streetlights and cleaner slums. We can now celebrate these because of the President’s personal concern that all Kenyans live a quality life,” Mr Obura said.

Mr Onyango Oloo, TNA secretary general said the visit was mainly a church function, but it was also a testament that the President loves all Kenyans regardless of their political affiliation.
