St Mary’s Secondary School, Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School and Alliance High School produced the top candidates in last year’s Form Four exam in Nyeri County.

At St Mary’s Secondary School in Nyeri Town, 17-year-old Clinton Muguai scored 83 points. He attributed his success to hard work, God’s grace and his teachers.

“It has been a great day. I was expecting success but not to the extent that I have achieved,” Clinton told the Nation from his home at Kabaru Village in Kieni East Sub-County.

He said he had been performing well since 2011, when he joined Form One, and was at the top of the class.

STUDY MEDICINE

“I would like to study medicine when I join university as I want to help people suffering from various diseases,” he said.

His mother, Alice Nyawira Wanjohi, said she was delighted by the news and it was a favour from God.

At Bishop Gatimu Ngandu Girls High School, 18-year-old Stella Wanjiku Wanjiru scored 82 points.

She attributed her success to God and support from teachers. In the KCPE exam, Wanjiku scored 413 marks. However, her disabled mother failed to raise school fees.

After the media highlighted her plight, former First Lady Lucy Kibaki volunteered to send her to school.

“I thank Mrs Kibaki for seeing me through high school,” she said.

At the same time, 18-year-old Maina Keen Wachira from Alliance High School scored an A with 83 points.

A LOT OF EFFORT

Keen, whose parents live in Mweiga, Kieni West Sub-County, was on a day out with his parents when he received the good news at the Nyeri Golf Club.

They celebrated after he confirmed his results via SMS.

“I am happy that God has answered my prayer to be one of the best students in the country,” said Keen.

He said he had put a lot of effort into achieving his dream score of A, which will enable him to pursue an engineering degree at university.
