Arrest Yebei killers, activist Ken Wafula tells government

Activist Ken Wafula has asked the government to arrest those behind the killing of International Criminal Court witness Meshack Yebei.

Mr Wafula, the executive director of the Centre for Human Rights and Democracy, alleged those involved in Mr Yebei’s disappearance and killing are known and should be brought to book.

He claimed to have provided five names of suspects in the case to the police for investigations but they are still “walking free” in Uasin Gishu County.

He alleged one of the suspects was seen at Turbo trading center three days before Yebei disappeared.

“What was this man's mission in Turbo trading centre three days before Yebei's kidnapping and subsequent killing and yet he has no home or business in the area,” posed Mr Wafula.

Mr Wafula made the allegations at a press conference in Eldoret town. The late Yebei family members, including his wife Lillian, mother Priscilla Kisorio, elder sister Clara, elder brothers Thomas, Moses and Ken were present at the press conference.

The deceased sister, Clara asked the government to speed up investigations and bring to book those responsible for killing her brother.

“Although we are relieved over the outcome of DNA sample tests done on the body of our brother, we demand for the arrest of those behind his death,” she added.

When contacted for comment, the head of Serious Crime and Prevention Unit at the CID headquarters Mr John Kariuki said they are yet to start investigations.
He dismissed claims by Wafula that police were delaying investigations.

“We are yet to start the process of probing those linked to his death but for now I cannot talk more on the matter since it is still in its initial stage,” he said.
