An artiste whose dreams to pursue secondary education was curtailed by poverty has been sponsored to return to class nearly 10 years after dropping out.

Ms Fancy Cherotich, whose stage name is Marion, composed a song in praise of Jubilee Party which hit the airwaves during electioneering period.

She will now join Isinya Adult Education Centre to pursue secondary education after nominated MP Gideon Keter offered to pay fees and personal expenses through her four years in high school.

The mother of four who dropped out in Form Two due to lack of fees, could not hide her joy saying she had gotten a second chance in life.

KIBENDI TAI

"I am so happy and cannot thank Hon Keter enough. I will work so hard in school," said the artiste of Kibendi Tai (moving forward) fame.

"Marion sang a good number for Jubilee Party and after learning of her shortcomings, I took the initiative of sponsoring her back to school," said Mr Keter adding that he was committed to help Kenyans with great potential to accomplish their dreams.

When Nation called the artiste, she was finalising her preparations so as to travel to school and join Form One tomorrow (Thursday).

She said she had organised for her young children to be taken care of when she is away. She will be visiting them on weekends.

UNITED

Her journey to fame was not an easy one as without a job, she used money she had accumulated from selling eggs to record the Kibendi Tai song in July last year.

The song that urges the Kalenjin Community to remain united.

The song made her brush shoulders with country's top brass, including President Uhuru Kenyatta in one of the campaign meetings.

The song is a distinct composition spiced with rare idioms and wise saying that captured elders’ attention and admiration from youngsters.
