An assistant chief in Naro Moru, central Kenya was kidnapped on Wednesday night by unknown men.

Police say Pauline Nyambura Mathenge, the Solio assistant chief, could not be traced and her mobile phone had been switched off just after she was kidnapped at around 11.45pm.

About five men went to her residence in Solio village seven kilometres from Naro Moru town and knocked on her door.

She opened and four men forced her into an awaiting vehicle and drove away with her to an unknown destination, leaving her young children behind.

Police say the administrator had separated with her husband who works in Nairobi.

Detectives had, by Thursday morning, not reached the husband who is said to have married another wife.

Police Flying Squad officers have been dispatched to help in the rescue operation
