What you need to know:

  • Corruption in school systems manifests in many ways. One of these is lack of integrity in the examination system.

Muthuaini Girls High School stole the show with their authentic Kikuyu creative dance during the third day of the 58th Edition of the Kenya National Drama Festival at Tom Mboya Labour College in Kisumu on Monday.

The dance was choreographed by Dr Jane Mugo, who is also the school principal.

The dance highlighted the plight of farmers who are exploited corrupt leaders.

St Mary’s School-Yala from Siaya County presented a moving play on governance and accountability.

BOY CHILD

Corruption in school systems manifests in many ways. One of these is lack of integrity in the examination system.

The play was set in an imaginary school: Tujenge Jina Secondary.

Lirhanda Girls High School choral verse scripted by Foy Ongaya and Achesa Victor was well received by the audience. It was produced by Ms Linda Zalo, the principal.

According to Ms Zalo, a lot of emphasis has in the recent times been directed to the girl child unlike in the past where the boy was considered the most superior and needed a lot of attention.

So much research and pieces of writing have very little on the boy child. In fact, the phrase boy-child hardly exits.

KEY PERFORMANCES
The choral verse is a clarion call to churches, families and communities to hold fast to the boy child and offer protection in equal measure as to that of the girl child.

Other performances that carried the day were Friends School Kamusinga’s oral narrative “Second term”, Riara Girls Springs play “Hell on earths”.

Others were Furaha mixed’s narrative “Mathumuko”, Bunyore Girls French play, Abiero Secondary’s modern dance, “Githii Gitu”, St Paul’s stand up comedy, Alliance High School’s French play, Njiiris High School play “Abadan Katan” among others.
