A British national has been charged at a Nairobi court with killing his Kenyan girlfriend.
Carl Gary Singleton, 41, is alleged to have murdered 22-year-old Peris Ashley Agumbi.
He allegedly committed the offence on November 19 last year in Gachie, Kiambu County.
The court freed the accused last December after an investigation officer told a court that there was no sufficient evidence to sustain a murder charge.
However, the prosecution said it would still conduct an inquest into the death of the University of Nairobi student following a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.
According to police, Mr Singleton had been a suspect following an earlier report by Ms Agumbi, who was diabetic, that he had flushed her lifesaving medicine down the toilet.
Ms Agumbi reportedly died in a hospital of diabetic hypertension and respiratory failure.
The two had allegedly met online two years ago through Facebook and Mr Singleton had flown into the country six months ago on a tourist visa to spend time with her.
