CJ refutes claims he met Bensouda in Netherlands trip

Chief justice Dr Willy Mutunga has refuted claims that he met ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda during his trip to the Netherlands in February.
In a statement from his office to newsrooms, the Chief Justice sought to set the record straight over an alleged meeting with Bensouda reported on The Star of Saturday, March 8, 2014.
“The Office of the Chief Justice wishes to refute reports of an alleged meeting between Dr Willy Mutunga and the Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court,” the statement by Kwamchetsi Makokha read.
The chief justice warned the media against what he termed as irresponsible reporting. He however was quick to add that he was committed to the freedom of the press.
“The media have a responsibility to protect their own freedom by conducting themselves professionally and avoiding actions that would make them legally vulnerable,” the statement further read.
