A vehicle belonging to Water and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa has a Sh6.5 million debt with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).

The Range Rover Vogue has Sh6,595,344.83 debt owed to KRA, the highest among 11 others that were listed over unpaid taxes.

This is according to a document presented before court by KRA showing amounts owed by the 11 motor vehicle owners who sued the taxman.

High Court Judge Isaac Lenaola had last Friday stopped KRA from impounding the vehicles but asked the taxman to present a schedule of the amounts of the alleged unpaid tax.

Mr Wamalwa's vehicle is among those presented for inspection over alleged fraudulent registration.

The CS’s personal assistant had indicated that Mr Wamalwa is the second owner and had paid the requisite monies. He blamed KRA for failing to update its records.

The amount owed is listed against the vehicle's initial owner, Ms Grace Wairaki.

KRA has insisted that they want the motor owners to consent on the way forward to settle the alleged unpaid tax.

The matter will be mentioned on Thursday to record an agreement on settling the alleged debt.

However, the High Court has still extended orders barring KRA from impounding the 12 vehicles.
