Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaissery has asked the National Cohesion and Integration Commission to take action against politicians over protests on the appointment of a vice-chancellor at Moi University.

Mr Nkaissery said the politicians should either apologise or be prosecuted.

The appointment of Laban Ayiro as acting vice-chancellor at the university sparked criticism from local leaders.

The university council had submitted three names to Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, including those of Daniel Tarus and Isaac Kimengi, both of who are professors.

Dr Matiang’i appointed Prof Ayiro, a director of quality assurance at the institution, after the end of Richard Mibey’s term.

“Prof Ayiro will act for a period of three months until a substantive VC is appointed,” said Dr Matiang’i in a letter dated September 19.
