CSs Mohamed, Omamo urge women to aspire for greatness

Young women in Nairobi care about reproductive health, the provision of sanitary towels, women in leadership and equal education opportunities.
These are some of the issues that were discussed by the women aged between 18 and 35 years during the second instalment of an initiative by the government to empower and help them achieve their aspirations.
On Tuesday, about 200 women converged at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, Nairobi, for the forum dubbed “Girls Matter: Conversations with Young Women in Kenya", to hear Cabinet Secretaries Amina Mohamed (Foreign Affairs) and Raychelle Omamo (Defence) talk about their roles as women in leadership, and to ask them tough questions on the status of the country and women today.
Girls Matter is a series of seminars organised by the government to empower women and help them achieve their aspirations.
“Unlike the women of my generation, you girls have a better chance at success.
"You have successful women leaders before you to look up to. We now have women ministers, women governors, women chief executive officers and so on. Go for it girls, the glass ceiling is still waiting to be shattered,” Ms Mohamed said.
Her Defence counterpart, Ms Omamo, encouraged the young women to do the things that they are good at and be powerful where they are.
A section of attendees from local universities said that they felt encouraged to keep working hard and grow in confidence.
