What you need to know:

  • Ms Shollei is charged, alongside five other officials, with irregular procurement of a Sh310 million residence for the Chief Justice.
  • The prosecution also promised to supply all copies of statements she requires for her defence.

Chief Justice Willy Mutunga will not be a prosecution witness in the corruption case against former Judiciary Registrar Gladys Shollei, a Nairobi court heard yesterday.

The prosecution, however, said Ms Shollei is free to call the CJ to come to her defence.

The court heard that the CJ had not recorded any statement in the case and was therefore not party to the prosecution case.

Ms Shollei is charged, alongside five other officials, with irregular procurement of a Sh310 million residence for the Chief Justice.

The prosecution also promised to supply all copies of statements she requires for her defence when the hearing starts on February 9 and continues to February 10.

Ms Shollei has also been exempted from a further mention on October 26 when her co-accused will make fresh applications to substitute their cash bail with bond.

She has denied the charges.

She is accused of improperly conferring a benefit to Johnson Nduya Muthama Holdings Limited, from which the Runda residence was purchased.
