Chief Kadhi announces start of Ramadhan

The Chief Kadhi Ahmed Muhdhar has announced the sighting of moon which signals the start of Holy month of Ramadhan.

Mr Muhdhar said Ramadhan would officially start today (Saturday).

Mr Muhdhar said the moon was sighted in Mombasa, Malindi, Lamu, Wajir and South Coast last night.

"As a result the Holy Month of Ramadhan officially starts tomorrow (today)," Mr Muhdhar said by phone.

The Chief Kadhi wished Ramadhan Kareem to Muslims and appealed to them to help needy members of the community.

Ramadhan is one of pillars of Islam. It is the ninth month of the Muslim year during which strict fasting is observed from dawn to sunset.
