A Kenyan couple is admitted to a US hospital following what the police are calling a “suspected case of attempted murder and suicide.”

Police spokesperson Lisa Holland says that officers were called into an apartment complex in the City of Roswell, Georgia on Monday morning after a woman, Emily Mokua, was seriously wounded in the chest following a scuffle with her husband.

BLEEDING PROFUSELY

“A neighbour called 911 after a 16-year-old boy ran into their house saying there was a problem at his apartment,” Ms Holland said.

When officers arrived, they found the boy’s mother bleeding profusely from a stab wound on the chest while his father, Obadiah Mokua, lay on the floor unconscious. “They didn’t look too good,” she said.

By the time of going to press, Ms Mokua was undergoing surgery at North Fulton Hospital, while her husband was being treated for poison ingestion.

A spokesperson at the hospital said the woman was in a “critical but stable condition.” However, he did not say whether Mr Mokua’s condition had improved.

At the time of the incident, there were three children aged 16, six and three in the house, who were later taken to a shelter for abandoned kids.

“They are at the Department of Family and Children Services,” Ms Euphemia Gitau, a sister of Mr Mokua said.

Ms Gitau told the Nation that the family was shocked by the incident. “We didn’t see this coming. There were no signs of an impending fight,” she said.

Police said they are carrying out further investigations.

This comes barely three months after the body of a Kenyan man was found hanging from a tree at Lafayette Park in New Jersey.
