  • The activists said they would hold a huge protest next Friday and asked Kenyans to bring with them TV sets to be dumped at the CS’s office.

A group of activists on Friday held a protest outside Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) offices in Nairobi and demanded the sacking of Information Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and CA Director-General Francis Wangusi.

The group also dumped several television sets, two live chickens and slaughtered another at the main entrance of the CA office.

They demanded that the government immediately offers Nation Media Group, Standard Group and Royal Media Services a digital distribution licence and permission to import and distribute set-top boxes.

TV BLACKOUT

The protesters said both Mr Matiang’i and Mr Wangusi should resign since they have failed to resolve a standoff that led to the current television blackout.

“The President should intervene in this issue,” said John Wamagata, one of the demonstrators.

The activists, whose actions attracted a heavy contingent of anti-riot police officers, said they would hold a huge protest next Friday and asked Kenyans to bring with them TV sets to be dumped at the CS’s office.

Kamau wa Njogu said CA was turning Kenya into a pay TV nation.
