Police arrest three in train tickets scam

Three people were arrested on claims of fraudulently selling Madaraka Express train tickets.
Coast regional coordinator Nelson Marwa said the three had been buying tickets at the normal Sh700 price but reselling them at Sh1,000.
"These people have been visiting the station and buying many tickets to create a shortage so that when innocent Kenyans go to ask for tickets they are told there is none. We have been tracking them and managed to arrest them," Mr Marwa said on Friday..

He added that after buying the tickets, the suspects roam around the Mombasa and Nairobi stations to sell them to travellers.
Mr Marwa said that the railway was built to benefit Kenyans and whoever tries to impede its success will be dealt with.
"The SGR project is for Kenyans. Everyone should take responsibility to protect it by all means possible.
"We will not allow a few people to tarnish the good image of the project. We have to respect the government," he said.
LAND GRABBERS
At the same time, the regional coordinator said the government has started fencing lands owned by schools in the region to shield them against grabbers.
"The Government has embarked on recovery of all grabbed school and government lands."
Mr Marwa said the fencing programme has already begun in several schools such as Mbaraki Primary and Secondary Schools.
He also called on the National Land Commission Chairperson Muhammad Swazuri to ensure that people own land legally.
