Deputy President William Ruto’s family is in mourning following the death of his younger brother after a short illness.

Mr Harrison Kiptoo Korir died at the Nairobi Hospital on Friday night of kidney and liver complications.

A sombre mood engulfed the family’s home in Kamagut, Uasin Gishu County, on Sunday, with mourners trooping in to condole with the family.

The family told the Nation thatKorir was never one to talk about illness and avoided being a burden to others.

“Sometimes we would find medicine in his pockets and that is how we found out he was unwell. He would only talk about it when the situation was almost getting out of hand,” Mr Samuel Ruto said of his brother who had in May received specialised treatment in India.

After university, Mr Korir, a father of two boys and the last born in the family, had ventured into business.

Classmates at his former Chebisaas Boys High School said he always avoided trouble with the authorities.

He will be buried this Wednesday.
