MPs, Senators summoned over hate speech

The Director of Public Prosecutions Friday ordered for the summoning of several Cord legislators in connection with hate speech.

Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro will be expected to record statements with the police.

The Cord leaders spoke during the coalition’s first rally in Kibera, Nairobi that kicked off their countrywide rallies.

During the rally, they took a swipe at the Jubilee Government over Anglo Leasing payments, the coalition rallies across the country and appointments to government positions.

CALLED FOR UNITY

The DPP has further ordered MPs Jakoyo Midiwo (Gem), TJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), Simba Arati (Dagoretti North), Junet Mohammed (Suna East) as well as Senators James Orengo (Siaya) and Boni Khalwale (Kakamega) to record their statements.

"DPP has today received police file # hate speech against Senators Omar :Muthama &Ongoro and ordered they be summoned to record statements," the office of the DPP said on Twitter on Friday adding:

"Also to record statements are Senators Orengo :Khalwale ;&Mps Midiwo :TJ Kajwang ;Arati &Junet # hate speech (sic)."

During the National Prayer Breakfast held in Nairobi in May, different leaders preached against hate speech calling for unity in the country.
